Reconstructing quantum theory from diagrammatic postulates

چکیده

A reconstruction of quantum theory refers to both a mathematical and conceptual paradigm that allows one derive the usual formulation from set primitive assumptions. The motivation for doing so is discomfort with theory, started its originator John von Neumann. We present finite-dimensional where all postulates are stated in diagrammatic terms, making them intuitive. Equivalently, they category-theoretic mathematically appealing. Again equivalently, process-theoretic establishing backbone concerns manner which systems processes compose. Aside form, key novel aspect this introduction new postulate, symmetric purification. Unlike ordinary purification applies equally well classical as theory. Therefore we first reconstruct full process theoretic description consisting composite classical-quantum their interactions, before restricting ourselves just ‘fully quantum’ final step. propose two alternative manners so, ‘no-leaking’ (roughly information gain causes disturbance) ‘purity cups’ existence entangled states). Interestingly, these turn out be equivalent any cups & caps. Additionally, show how standard postulate can seen an immediate consequence purity cups. Other tangential results concern specific frameworks generalised probabilistic theories (GPTs) (a.k.a. CQM). Firstly, provide presentation GPTs, which, henceforth, subsumed under theories. Secondly, argue ‘sharp dagger’ indeed right choice dagger structure sharpness vital reconstruction.

Quantum mechanics from two physical postulates

Abstract For an arbitrary preparation, quantum mechanical descriptions refer to the complementary contexts set by incompatible measurements. We argue that an arbitrary preparation, therefore, should be described with respect to such a context by its degrees of disturbance (represented by real numbers) and their probability distribution (postulate 1). Measurement contexts thus provide reference ...

Von Neumann and Luders postulates and quantum information theory

This note is devoted to some foundational aspects of quantummechanics (QM) related to quantum information (QI) theory, especially quantum teleportation and “one way quantum computing.” We emphasize the role of the projection postulate (determining post-measurement states) in QI and the difference between its Lüders and von Neumann versions. These projection postulates differ crucially in the ca...

Some Comments on Three Suggested Postulates for Quantum Theory

Three basic postulates for Quantum Theory are proposed, namely the Probability, Maximum-Speed and Hilbert-Space postulates. Subsequently we show how these postulates give rise to well-known and widely used quantum results, as the probability rule and the linearity of quantum evolution. The suggested postulates also enables us to criticize EPR elements of reality under the Special Relativity phi...

Quantum mechanics without statistical postulates

The Bohmian formulation of quantum mechanics is used in order to describe the measurement process in an intuitive way without a reduction postulate in the framework of a deterministic single system theory. Thereby the motion of the hidden classical particle is chaotic during almost all nontrivial measurement processes. For the correct reproduction of experimental results, it is further essentia...

The postulates of Quantum Mechanics

As a starting point in understanding Quantum Mechanics, the postulates of Quantum Mechanics are presented, and few of the main eigenvalue problems, as well. Introduction. Quantum Mechanics is an axiomatic theory because it is well-grounded on few principles (from the Latin principium), or axioms (from the Greek, axios), or postulates (from the Latin postulatum), all of these words meaning the s...
